Nightmare of Eden

AZURE Vacation planet. The cruise line Empress crashed into the Hecate when both ships emerged simultaneously from hyperspace into its orbit (5K)

BRUS Planet incorporated into Tryst's CET (5K).

CONTINUOUS EVENT TRANSMITTER (CET) Machine invented by zoologist Tryst and Prof. Stein to capture and study specimens of alien fauna and flora. It functioned an a primitive version of the Scope. It converted samples of planetary ecology into electro magnetic signals, stored on event crystals. The image projection enabled the operator to study the specimens. Tryst used the CET to capture and transport the savage Mandrels, which were the source of the drug vraxoin, from the planet Eden. After the hyperspace crash of the Empress and the Hecate above Azure, the CET became unstable and the Mandrels escaped. The Fourth Doctor eventually used the CET to capture Tryst and his fellow vraxoin smuggler, Dymond (5K).

COSTA Officer of the Azure Customs and Excise Service. He and Fisk were sent aboard the Empress to investigate vraxoin smuggling after the ship crashed into the Hecate, when they both emerged from hyperspace simultaneously. They first suspected the Fourth Doctor, but later arrested the real smugglers, Tryst and Dymond (5K).

DARP Planet incorporated into Tryst's CET (5K).

DELLA Tryst's assistant on the Volante zoological expedition. She was in love with her fellow expedition member, Stott. She was aboard the Empress when it crashed into the Hecate, when both ships emerged from hyperspace above the planet Azure. After she found that Tryst and Dymond were smuggling vraxoin, she was shot by Dymond, but was rescued by the Fourth Doctor (5K).

DYMOND Captain of the Hecate. His ship crashed into the Empress when it emerged from hyperspace above the planet Azure. He was exposed by the Fourth Doctor and Romana as a vraxoin smuggler, in league with Tryst, and was eventually arrested (5K).

EDEN Savage world where the deadly Mandrels originated. Tryst used his CET machine to capture several Mandrels to supply Dymond with vraxoin. Stott had been left to die on Eden (5K).

EMPRESS Interstellar cruise liner which crashed into the Hecate when emerging from hyperspace above the planet Azure. The Fourth Doctor and Romana exposed one of its passengers, Tryst, as a vraxoin smuggler (5K).

FISK Officer of the Azure Customs and Excise Service. He and Costa were sent aboard the Empress to investigate drug smuggling after the ship crashed into the Hecate, when they both emerged simultaneously from hyperspace. They first suspected the Fourth Doctor, but later arrested the real smugglers, Tryst and Dymond (5K).

GALACTIC SALVAGE Space insurance company, formed in London in 2068 AD, but disbanded in 2096 AD. Several decades later, the Fourth Doctor betrayed himself on board the Empress when he pretended to be one of its employees (5K).

GIDU Stormy planet incorporated into Tryst's CET (5K).

HECATE Spaceship which crashed into the Empress when it emerged from hyperspace above the planet Azure. The Fourth Doctor and Romana exposed its captain, Dymond, as a vraxoin smuggler (5K).

INTERGALACTIC NARCOTICS BUREAU Interplanetary organization devoted to fighting drugs. Rigg thought that the Fourth Doctor was one of its agents when he investigated vraxoin smuggling aboard the Empress (5K).

M37 Planetary system located beyond the Sigmus Gap catalogued by Tryst (5K).

MANDRELS Savage monsters from the planet Eden. Tryst discovered that the deadly drug vraxoin could be manufactured from the Mandrels' essence after they had been destroyed by heat. He used his CET machine to capture and transport the Mandrels, but they escaped after the Empress and the Hecate crashed above the planet Azure when both ships simultaneously emerged from hyperspace. The Fourth Doctor lured the Mandels back to the Eden projection inside the CET (5K).

RANX Planet incorporated into Tryst's CET (5K).

RIGG Captain of the Empress. His ship crashed into the Hecate when both ships emerged simultaneously from hyperspace above the planet Azue. Tryst hooked him on vraxoin. Rigg later attacked Romana, and was killed by Fisk (5K).

SECKER Navigator of the Empress. He was a vraxoin addict, in league with Tryst and Dymond. His negligence caused the ship to crash into the Hecate when emerging from hyperspace above planet Azure. Secker was killed by a Mandrel (5K).

SIGMUS GAP Sector of space explored by Tryst (5K).

SOMNO-MOTH Native creature of Eden which rendered its victims unconscious with a mild narcotic, before taking some of their blood. A somno-moth from Tryst's CET escaped and attacked Romana aboard the Empress (5K).

SPACE CORPS (INTERNATIONAL) Military organization which patrolled the space lanes during one of Earth's early expansion periods. General Hermack of the Space Corps was responsible for the destruction of the notorious pirate, Caven (YY). Major Stott was on a drug smuggling assignment for the Intelligence Section of the Space Corps when he was shot on Eden by Tryst (5K).

STEIN Professor who helped Tryst create the CET machine (5K).

STOTT Third member of Tryst's Volante zoological expedition. In reality, he was a Major in the Intelligence Section of the Space Corps on a drug-running assignment. He was in love with Della. Tryst shot him and left him to die on Eden, but he was caught up in the CET. He escaped after the Empress crashed into the Hecate above the planet Azure, and helped the Fourth Doctor and Romana expose Tryst and his fellow vraxoin smuggler, Dymond (5K).

TRYST Professor of interplanetary zoology whose ambition was to catalog every species in the galaxy. Tryst's expedition on the Volante was comprised of his assistants, Della and Stott. In order to secure funding for his research, Tryst decided to smuggle the drug vraxoin, which he had discovered could be derived from the essence of the Mandrels, savage monsters from the planet Eden. Tryst shot Stott, and used his CET machine to capture the Mandrels and hand them to drug smuggler Dymond. After the Empress crashed into the Hecate, Tryst tried to frame the Fourth Doctor but was eventually exposed by the Time Lord and Stott. He and Dymond were arrested (5K).

VRAXOIN Deadly drug in use among humans in the early part of the 22nd Century. It induced a state of warm complacency, followed by agonizing withdrawal symptoms, and eventually death. The Fourth Doctor exposed two vraxoin smugglers, Tryst and Dymond, after the Empress crashed into the Hecate when emerging from hyperspace above the planet Azure. He also discovered that vraxoin was derived from the essence of the Mandrels, savage creatures from the planet Eden (5K).
